‘I love colour and I love texture. These two things inspire me most in my work. To see a rainbow will always bring a smile to my face. I try to be - Joy by name and Joyful by nature’.

Joy Funnell is a metal clay artist and enameller whose work is well known for it’s fun, vibrant colours. Joyful Jewellery! When she isn’t creating, or teaching (she considers it a privilege to be able to impart her knowledge to others), Joy is Managing Editor with Metal Clay Artist Magazine, the only printed magazine dedicated to needs of metal clay lovers.

Joy creates one-of-a-kind and limited edition pieces. She works mostly with fine silver, initially in a clay form, which is then fired at high temperatures to transform into solid silver, and hallmarked at the London Assay Office. For colour she uses traditional transparent enamels fired on in the kiln, so the beauty of the silver can shine through, and she specialises in her Enamelled Accents technique where jewel like colours are captured in fine silver wires on the surface. You can buy Joy’s work direct from the website shop and also at the fairs she attends.

Joy teaches from her base in Hastings, UK, and around the world, and also has also created online workshops. Find out more about her teaching on the Workshops page.

Joy is a Senior Art Clay Instructor and a Craftsman of the Guild of Enamellers.
